Layer Visibility

The Layer Visibility node

Lede. The central node of a Layer Visibility editor – collects layer toggles for the InDesign document per record.

Group: Endpoint · Available in: Layer Visibility editor · Central node: Yes

Purpose

  • Toggle InDesign layers on or off per record from a single workspace.
  • Drive per-language / per-variant visibility from a column value.

Where to find it

Auto-created when you open the Layer Visibility editor.

How it works

Wire Layer nodes into Layers. Each Layer node references one InDesign layer; the Layer Visibility node aggregates their directives and applies the resulting visibility map to the document during merge.

Sockets

Direction Name What it does What you can connect
Input Layers All layer-toggle directives for this document. Required. Multiple. Layer node.

No output sockets.

Example (end-to-end)

[Data Text: Language] → [Condition: == "DE"]
                            ├ Success → [Layer: "DE"] → [Layer Visibility.Layers]
                            └ Fail → [Layer: "EN"] → [Layer Visibility.Layers]

Empty / error behaviour

  • No Layers wired: no layers toggled; document uses the InDesign defaults.
  • Layer node with no gate: layer is unconditionally visible.

Limitations

  • Only applies to layers that have a matching Layer node wired. Other layers stay at their InDesign defaults.
  • Layer – the only input source.
