Placeholder – Image

The Placeholder — Image node

Lede. The central node of an image placeholder workspace – everything you wire here ends up in the corresponding InDesign image frame.

Group: Endpoint · Available in: Image Placeholder workspace · Central node: Yes

Purpose

  • Hold the merged image for one InDesign image frame.
  • Apply per-record object style and fit / alignment overrides.
  • Provide fallback behaviour when no image is available.
  • Attach a per-record hyperlink to the image frame.

Where to find it

Auto-created when you open an image placeholder editor.

How it works

Same evaluation order as the text variant minus the Format / Repeater hooks. The placeholder pulls Content (an image reference), Style, Hyperlink, and consults Error Action when Content is empty.

Sockets

Direction Name What it does What you can connect
Input Content The image reference. Required. Data Image.
Input Style Object style + fit / align overrides. Style Image.
Input ErrorAction What to do when Content is empty. Action Text Frame.
Input Hyperlink URL attached to the image. Hyperlink node.

No output sockets.

Example (end-to-end)

[Data Image] → [Placeholder.Content]
[Style Image: "Polaroid"] → [Placeholder.Style]
[Action Text Frame: "Use fallback"]→ [Placeholder.ErrorAction]

Empty / error behaviour

  • No Content connection: nothing rendered.
  • Content empty: ErrorAction decides (e.g. Remove frame, Use fallback image).

Limitations

  • No Format / Repeater sockets – per-row image iteration isn’t supported. Use a Table for that.
