Placeholder – Barcode

The Placeholder — Barcode node

Lede. The central node of a barcode placeholder workspace – everything you wire here drives the generated barcode in the corresponding InDesign frame.

Group: Endpoint · Available in: Barcode Placeholder workspace · Central node: Yes

Purpose

  • Hold the generated barcode for one InDesign frame.
  • Apply per-record object style.
  • Provide fallback behaviour when the payload is missing or invalid.
  • Attach a per-record hyperlink to the barcode frame.

Where to find it

Auto-created when you open a barcode placeholder editor.

How it works

Content holds the barcode payload text (chained from Data Text / Static Text / AI). The symbology (EAN-13, Code 128, …) is configured in the placeholder’s own settings, not on a connected node.

Sockets

Direction Name What it does What you can connect
Input Content The barcode payload text. Required. Data Text, Static Text, AI.
Input Style Object style for the frame. Style Object.
Input ErrorAction What to do when payload is empty. Action Text Frame.
Input Hyperlink URL attached to the barcode frame. Hyperlink node.

No output sockets.

Example (end-to-end)

[Data Text: EAN] → [Placeholder.Content]
[Style Object: "Barcode"] → [Placeholder.Style]

Empty / error behaviour

  • Content empty: ErrorAction decides.
  • Invalid symbology payload (e.g. wrong checksum): typically surfaces as a render warning in InDesign.

Limitations

  • One symbology per placeholder.
