Do I need Excel installed to use .xlsx files?

No. DataMergeStudio reads .xlsx directly – see CSV vs. Excel.

Which InDesign version do I need?

InDesign 2024 or newer, on macOS 13 or later. Full details are in Requirements.

Does DataMergeStudio change my spreadsheet?

No. Operations like sorting provide a shaped view to the merge; your source file is left untouched, and a reload keeps your setup.

Can I get editable InDesign files, not just PDF?

Yes – export to InDesign, or keep the .indd files alongside a PDF export.

One file per record, or one big file?

Your choice of merge mode: Individual for one (or a set) per file, Grow for everything in one document.

Can I produce several languages in one run?

Yes – set up variants and export them together.

How is AI provided, and what does it cost?

Either managed (we run the model, metered as AI credits) or bring your own key. What each plan includes is at datamergestudio.com#pricing.

Can I automate DataMergeStudio?

Yes, with AppleScript – load a project, import a datasource, and start a merge from a script.
